Dancin’ with My Friends
Dancin With My Friends Logo Dancin’ with My Friends, Chemung ARC’s annual signature fundraiser. This integrated dance event happens the first Saturday of May and features a live band, catered delicacies, cash bar, door prizes, gift raffles, silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and so much more. Each year the planning committee selects a theme for the event. In the past, we have hosted a 50’s sock hop, South of the Border fiesta and a Western Round Up hoe-down. In 2011 we featured "Everything Eighties" a tribute to the 1980s.

Monies raised for this event were dedicated to the agency's Recreation and Family Respite program and were used solely to assist individuals with developmental disabilities supported by Chemung ARC. The event that was held on Saturday, May 7th from 7-10pm at the American Legion in Horseheads was a great success for the agency. Not only did everyone have a great entertaining evening with a live performance by The Cats, and delicious food from Edibles, but Chemung ARC was able to exceed our fundraising goal by $4,000. Dancin' With My Friends 2011 brought in over $19,000 for our Recreation and Family Respite program. Because of the outpouring of support, Chemung ARC will be able to continue to offer this very popular program in the coming year.

This year's event is in the planning stages, so please check back with us for details.

Kids on the Block Kids on the Block is a powerful eduation program designed for third grade youth to teach children disability awareness. The style of puppetry used is based on the Japanese Bunraku puppet theatre. The large colorful puppets are "shadowed" by the puppeteers who are dressed in black. Because of the generous sponsosrhip from local foundations, businesses, and community members, Chemung ARC is able to offer FREE Kids on the Block performances. Each performance lasts 50 to 60 minutes and includes a Question & Answer period in which students interact directly with the characters. During this time, myths and misconceptions are replaced with facts and sensitivity. To book a performance, make a donation to Kids on the Block, or to learn more about this exciting program, please contact Chemung ARC at (607) 734-6151x134.
