RE:  The Arc of Chemung Celebrates Success of Inaugural Golf Tournament

Elmira, NY – The Arc of Chemung is pleased announce that its Inaugural Golf Tournament, which took place on Monday, May 23rd at the Elmira Country Club, was a huge success!

Thanks to the generous support of the twenty-one teams who participated, and community sponsors, the event raised more than $10,000 to support employment for individuals supported through Southern Tier Industries (STI), a division of The Arc of Chemung.  STI is dedicated to developing vocational skills and work habits in order for individuals supported to be employed at local businesses.  To date, 172 individuals in Chemung County receive supports from STI.

Eighty-four golfers enjoyed a gorgeous day of golf, a delicious lunch and buffet dinner.  Congratulations to the winners of this year’s tournament, Team Realty USA: Brian Pickering, Bill Marks, Art Griffies, and Peter Lowman.  The winning team was tied for first place, with a score of 61, but broke the tie with a leading score on the back 9.

Additionally, a special announcement was made in recognition of a long time Board member, Finance Committee member, Agency volunteer, and the founder of The Arc of Chemung's Fund. “The people of Chemung County with intellectual and developmental disabilities, along with those of us privileged to have worked with him, owe a lot to Norm Ward,” said Michael Doherty, PhD., Executive Director.  “His tireless efforts, on behalf of the disability community for over 30 years, warrants serious recognition for Norm. As a result, we are naming our golf tournament after him. So, stay tuned for more details to come on the 2nd Annual Norm Ward Golf Tournament,” Doherty added.
